Step One - Background About The Underground Railroad
To design a monument to the Underground Railroad, you need to know something about it. If your class has already studied the Underground Railroad, you might skip the research part of this step. If your class is just beginning to study the Underground Railroad, the resources here will be helpful.
Divide into three groups. Choose one person in each to be group leader and one to be recorder; everyone else is a reviewer. The group leader keeps everyone focused on completing this step. The recorder records responses from the group on the organizer Thinking About the Underground Railroad. Reviewers collect information from the resources listed here.
Use the organizer Thinking About the Underground Railroad to help you gather information and think about what you learn. Focus on completing the questions assigned to your group. Then discuss each group's responses, compiling all answers into one organizer.
