Step Seven - Design Your Monument

Now it's time to apply what you've learned to design your monument. Form groups of five students and choose roles (at right). Click on each role to read about its responsibilities.

As an option, it might be helpful to click back to the Questions and discuss them again. Also review responses to the organizer Thinking about the Underground Railroad.

Have a group discussion to decide what main messages you want to communicate with your monument. Print the organizer Messages to Express and record your ideas in writing. This is a key step in developing your design.

Still working as a group, click back to the Task and Project guidelines and review them to make sure you know what is expected. Choose the six or more design items you want to work on.

Next print the organizer Design Choices. Fill it in as each student in your group works on his/her assignments.

Now, click on your role to the right and begin your individual work. Consult with group members as needed.
