Land Developer

"For over 40 years, Sea Pines Resort has served as an inspiration and prototype model for others who have built hundreds of communities in other parts of the United States."

Mayor of Hilton Head, 1998

"I believe it is our most solemn responsibility to make sure that what we have here in Charleston is not destroyed by the pressures of growth. This does not mean we seek to stop growth, for physical and economic progress is essential to this and every community."

Mayor of Charleston, State of the City Address February 2001

"We looked up and down the coast from Virginia to Florida and fell in love with Bull Point. The setting is magnificent...This is truly a paradise."

New resident of South Carolina development

As president of the XYZ Land Development company of Florida, you:

  • have already built several residential and resort development complexes in other states
  • look forward to your first development in South Carolina
  • believe firmaly that resort developments benefit states and communities by bringing in tax dollars, new residents, and tourists
  • anticipate your company profiting

The local opposition in South Carolina to your proposed development does not surprise you. In every community, there always seem to be groups who worry more about the past or nature than progress. You need to learn about the groups opposing you so you can counter their arguments. Your company has overcome obstacles like these before and you believe you can succeed in the Sea Islands. You are prepared to make changes in the development plans if that is what it takes to get approval.

Your job on the task force is to show how development is changing the face of South Carolina and convince others that these changes are beneficial.

You are IN FAVOR OF the resort development.
