After
the five roles make their presentations, the whole task force
debates what to do about the development project in light
of what is learned from the various presentations. The whole
class strives towards one response.
The
task force cannot simply say yes or no to the project. Because
of the divergent positions represented by the roles, the task
force must strive to reach consensus
in its recommendations. A consensus is an opinion that everyone
can agree to. It means that no one wins or loses totally.
All sides get some of what they want, but not all. The task
force can recommend modifications to the project or specific
steps to protect the interests of all concerned. The task
force will present its consensus recommendations to the County
Commissioners (your teacher).
See
the process overview
section for details about the steps to take and products to
create in order to accomplish this task.
