Dr. Jennifer Smith, Librarian and Professor, NKU

Dr. Jennifer Smith served as the Research and Reference Librarian for this year's TNT project. She enjoyed showing the students and staff involved in the project the various books, databases, deep web sources, and other reference materials that are available for researching the Underground Railroad. She also enjoyed researching the various topics the students focused upon. Each time she took a trip on the Underground Railroad during this project Jennifer learned something new.

Outside of TNT, Jennifer leads a very busy life. Her full-time job is that of a Research and Instructional Librarian at Northern Kentucky University's Steely Library. She also works part-time in the Literature and Language Department at NKU as a professor of Children's Literature. While working both jobs, Jennifer successfully completed her Ph.D. in Education from The Ohio State University and graduated this past March. She is very active in the field of children's literature and currently serves as the Chair of the Kentucky Bluegrass Award, the state's student choice reading program.

When not busy with work, school, and her various other projects, Jennifer's enjoyments include playing with her two cat companions, Peppermint and Sassafras, and working in her garden.
