Songs and Music

The artists that you will read about did not spend a long time, if any at all, in the bondage of slavery. However, they still lived in a time where they were discriminated against because of their heritage. Despite this, they rose to become the most famous names in Gospel music and prove that nothing could hold them down. They were African-Americans who inspired and gave hope to their people through song.

The spirituals that they sung and wrote for church were pleasing not only to African-Americans but also to Caucasians during this time. The legacy of these artists will never be forgotten. Please enter and read the lives of Charles Albert Tindley one of the "Founding Fathers of Gospel Music" and Harry T. Burleigh.

Presented by Crystal Steed and Kurt Wagner.
